This assignment was both physically and technically challenging. My clients,
Ritchies, specialise in explosives and rock drilling, and have projects
worldwide. In this case, various sections of the Lochy Hydro Electric
Aqueduct system, some 5-6 kilometres in length, had to be stabilised using
a spray concrete lining. In order to get to many of the sections in question,
a walk of nearly 2000 metres, carrying equipment, had to undertaken in
complete darkness, not to mention the wet. (Delete intervening sentence
and extra full stop!) As these tunnels are aqueducts and usually full
of high pressure water there was no power of any sort. The photograph
was built up over a period of 5-6 minutes with portable flash and several
hand held headlamps using a "painting with light" technique.
These tunnel systems will not shut down again for at least another twenty
years. |
